DESCRIPTION:

The very early stages of mobile telephone service began in 1949 when AT&T offered mobile service in several East Coast and Midwest American towns. Operators had to connect calls with the AT&T system, and the system was very limited to the number of calls it could handle at one time. Prior to that wireless technology was limited to military uses such as the system used by armed forces in World War I and World War II with point to point systems that relied on radio signals for communications.

The early 1970s saw the introduction of the current cell phone technology by the Motorola Corporation. The phone had an insufficient battery life of about 30 minutes and required a long charging time of around 10 hours between uses. The consumer market soon received the first generation of mobile phones. The phones were large, and the battery life remained a critical weakness. The battery was large and accounted for much of the bulk of the early mobile phones. The phone required a carrying bag, and the moniker “bag phone” became attached to the device. Many people opted to have the phones installed in cars as an alternative to carrying around the clumsy “bag phone.” The first analog network for cell phones was built in Japan and in Scandinavian countries a few years later.

Motorola released the “brick” phone in the early 1980’s. These phones were expensive and still suffered from limited battery life but were an improvement over the “bag phone.” Bell Labs redesigned the wireless phone network at that time and the term “cell phone” became part of terminology.

The cell phone saw significant advancement in the 1990’s and texting technology was introduced. Flip phones and Blackberries, as well as other devices, soon became commonplace on the market.

Apple corporation introduced the modern “smartphone” in 2007 and introduced access to the internet for the phone as well as the futuristic touchscreen technology. The device could now perform a multitude of tasks such as playing music, camera technology, and applications that perform specific tasks known as “apps.”

Along with the modern smartphone the market soon introduced a variety of carrying cases and different types of devices for keeping the phone close and secure. Many of these devices have limitations that can hamper access to the phone and can be uncomfortable. Several carrying systems don’t keep the phone secure, and it can easily be stolen or damaged.

The Quick Draw carrying system is a unique and innovative system for carrying and securing a mobile phone. A body holster that carries the phone in a safe and accessible position under the arm the Quick Draw product is comfortable and comes in a variety of configurations for personal preferences. The device is worn with two adjustable straps that go around the individual’s body and the other strap that will go over the shoulder. The phone is attached to a mounting system at the convergence of the two straps under the arm. The mounting system consists of a mounting magnetized block secured to the straps. The block fits a sliding block mounted on the phone case. The phone is held secure by the mounting system, and the magnetized sections hold the phone securely until the user chooses to remove it. The phone will slide easily out of the mount with just a simple pull in an upward direction. The mounting block is also excellent at transmitting vibrations from the phone to the body so the user can operate the phone silently without missing a call.

The Quick Draw is available in fine high-quality leather for beauty and comfort, in nylon for a variety of colors, and in clear vinyl for reduced visibility. The case for the phone has a Velcro secured flap over the phone that can be flipped up and the phone can be instantly accessed. The case is available in matching leather, nylon or clear depending on the user’s preference. Each case has full access points for control buttons and input jacks for headphones and chargers. The Quick Draw is invisible when worn under a jacket or sports coat. The Quick Draw is an excellent, comfortable way to keep the mobile phone safe and secure while keeping it instantly available for use.

PRODUCT COMPONENT CLARIFICATION:

The “Quick Draw” is an innovative cellular phone carrying product that has been designed to comfortably retain and present the smartphone to the person. The fabric strapped shoulder holster is adjustable with one loop going around the torso and one loop going over the shoulder. There is a plastic U shaped retainer that is attached at the junction of the two straps. A fabricated leather holster snugly fits into this U shaped holder and remains there until removed by the user. The phone slips into the holster, which is supplied with a foldable cover to retain the phone within. The lid is held in the closed position using a strong magnet and steel target. The “Quick Draw” holds the phone in a convenient place, which is easy to retrieve or restore the phone in until the next use.

Currently, the phone must be carried in the purse, pocket, or suspended on the belt or pocket in holster. To retrieve it when it’s ringing can be a chore, especially if the phone is down near the bottom of the purse or in a pocket when the user is sitting down. If the phone is in a right handed holster on the belt and user is a passenger in the car, the seat belt can prevent the access to the phone with in the holster.

The “Quick Draw” resolves most of these problems by comfortably supporting the phone on the side of the torso under the arm. The phone is easy to access and can be retrieved by raising the magnetic closed top flap and pushing the phone up out of the holster with a finger. Then it is easy to extract, use, and then replace back into the holster. The product can be made from almost any fabric, leather, or synthetic material. After cutting and sewing, the molded plastic U channel is riveted to the shoulder harness and the suede lined leather holster with the magnetic catch is hung on the U channel using the T shaped button on the back of the holster. The straps are adjustable so one size fits all and after sizing, excess material can be trimmed off and discard to improve the looks of the product. The product can even be supplied in transparent matte finish vinyl to allow whatever clothes color underneath to come through, making the shoulder holster almost disappear when worn. All the materials are very soft yet strong, and drape smoothly over the body for the optimum in comfort. Several different strap assemblies can be purchased to complement or contrast with the clothing being worn and the holster fits in every one without difficulty.

The strap assembly This chest and shoulder strap components are cut to length from the nylon strap, are trimmed to fit together well and then sewn together using nylon thread. Each of the straps has a commercially available snap together belt buckle sewn to the strap with the other end fed through the buckle to allow convenient size adjustment. The straps are 0.5” wide by 0.0625” thick and are very flexible. The nylon straps are very strong, wear well, and can be supplied in any one of 24 standard colors. The join of the shoulder strap and the chest strap is carefully trimmed, fitted so it is flat after sewing, and is sewed together using a cross box stitch for strength. After sewing, the “U” shaped mount is riveted in place to finish the straps. The fabric material can be supplied in one of many vibrant colors, so a distinctive color may be chosen to enhance the product recognition factor, which can dramatically improve the market adoption of the product.

  • As an option, the straps can be supplied in other materials, such as leather for a more elegant look, various colors of naugahyde, various colors of vinyl, or even transparent (matte or shiny) vinyl.

The snap together buckles: These commercially available buckles are injection molded from polypropylene plastic. One section with the tines fits into the shell side and snaps into the open sides of the shell, locking it in place. The buckle is releases by compressing the tines and allowing the shell to slide off them. The plastic buckle can be cycled many thousands of times without degradation. The buckle assembly can be supplied in many different colors so it can be purchased to match, complement or clash with the strap color.

The holster: The holster is fabricated using fine black cowhide on the outside sewn over a thin sheet of polypropylene. The inside of the housing section is covered with synthetic suede to cradle the phone between uses. The suede runs up and covers the covers the inside of the flap as well. All seams are stitched to provide an elegant looking and the edges are sewn to the front and back to make a pocket. There is a center relief on the bottom to allow the finger to push the phone up out of the lower housing. A thin neodymium magnet is sewn into the outer surface of the housing where it mates with a steel target sewn under the suede on the inside of the flap. This holds it down when the flap is closed over the phone. The strong plastic T button is thermally bonded to the interior back plastic and the cover is sewn around it on the outside of the back.

  • As an option, the closure method can employ a hook and loop (H&L) fastener pair instead of the magnet pair.
  • As another option, the straps and holster can be sewn from matte or clear vinyl material. The straps can be cut from 0.03” material, which can be sewn just like the nylon or other materials. In this case, the holster can also be sewn from vinyl materials so the phone is suspended in a clear medium. All the other construction will remain the same.

The Quick Draw is designed to be aesthetic and effective in the application. The relative ease of manufacture and the moderately inexpensive components provide good marketability for the manufacturer. The user benefits from comfortable storage, easy retrieval, and safe storage of phone, which should provide considerable market interest in the product.
